All features

Everything Enroque does

The full list, in one place. Each feature says plainly if it has not yet been tried on a real device. The app is not released yet.

Play

  • Play the computer

Eight levels, from a gentle beginner up to the full engine. Lower levels make plausible human-style mistakes instead of random ones. No daily limits. The engine is a simple search, much weaker than Stockfish.

  • Playing styles

Pick an opponent style: The Attacker, The Wall, The Trader or The Gambler. Each leans toward its style among its best moves without turning good moves into blunders.

  • Mirror bot Pro Not yet tried on a phone

An opponent that plays your first moves and makes mistakes at your rate, so you play a game that looks like yours. It unlocks after 30 graded moves.

  • Chess960

Play Chess960 against the computer or on one device with a friend. Castle by dragging the king onto its rook. Local games only, not online.

  • Pass and play

Two people, one device. Legal-move dots, castling, en passant, promotion picker, check, mate, stalemate and draw rules are all handled.

  • Table mode

Lay the phone flat between two players. Each end gets its own board, clock and controls, and the far end is turned around for the player across the table.

  • Nearby play Tested on simulators so far

Find a player in the room and play over Bluetooth or peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. No internet and no account needed.

  • Play on Lichess Played on a real phone

Sign in with your own Lichess account and play through Lichess's official Board API. Rapid and slower time controls, casual or rated seeks, resign and draw. The game reconnects after you close the app. There is no coach or hints in these games, because Lichess fair play does not allow them. Enroque is a client for Lichess, a separate service.

  • Online with friend codes

Start a game, share an 8-character code, and your friend joins from anywhere. Clocks run on the server, and a dropped connection reconnects to the same game. Offer a draw, ask for a rematch, and queue a premove online.

  • “Your move” notifications Tried on a real phone

For online games, the app sends a “Your move” notification when it is closed or in the background.

  • Ranked matchmaking and ratings

Join the queue and get paired with a player near your rating; the search window widens while you wait. Ratings use Glicko-2 and show a class name: Beginner, Improver, Class E to Class A, Expert, Master. It is an Enroque rating, not a FIDE or USCF rating. There is a leaderboard.

  • Friends and watching Server tested, not yet tried on a phone

Add a friend with a friend code. If you follow each other, you can watch each other's live games, read-only. You can only watch a friend who has added you back.

  • Clubs and arenas Server tested, not yet tried on a phone

Start a club, share its 6-character invite code, and run a timed arena for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Arena games are 3 minutes plus 2 seconds, unrated. A win scores 2, a draw 1, and a win right after a win earns one more point.

  • Online draw offers, rematch, premoves, undo requests, quick chat

Offer or accept a draw, ask for a rematch, queue a premove on the opponent's turn, ask to take a move back, and send one of six quick phrases. Chat is fixed phrases, so there is nothing to moderate.

  • Saved and recoverable games Restoring on a second device is not built yet

Computer and pass-and-play games are backed up as you go, so a crash or relaunch does not lose them, and you are offered to resume. Games can also be imported and exported as PGN.

Learn

  • Coach with per-move feedback

As you play, each move gets a label (best, good, inaccuracy, mistake or blunder) with a plain-language reason and, when relevant, a better move. The coach does not praise a move that leaves a piece hanging.

  • Three-step hints

Hints teach instead of just spoiling: first the piece or area to look at, then the idea, and only then the exact move.

  • Post-game review Pro

After a game, see accuracy for both sides, the opening, the five biggest swings, and scrub back through every move with notes.

  • Mistakes become puzzles

Your own mistakes and blunders are extracted from the review as puzzles, so you practise the positions you actually got wrong.

  • 9,555 puzzles Not yet tried on a phone

Puzzles from the Lichess puzzle database (CC0). Filter by theme and level. There is also a daily puzzle, Puzzle Rush, a daily puzzle widget and endgame practice.

  • Train my weak spots Pro Not yet tried on a phone

Serves puzzles on the kinds of mistakes the coach has seen you make, instead of a random mix.

  • Daily puzzle and Puzzle Rush

One new puzzle each day, and a three-minute Rush that gets harder as you solve.

  • Endgame practice

Six lessons played against the computer with the goal shown under the board: queen mate, rook mate, two bishops, bishop and knight, Lucena and king and pawn.

  • Opening explorer Pro

An optional 6 MB download of master games (Lichess data, CC0). See which moves were played in a position and how often.

  • Illustrated guide Being connected into the app for launch

A written guide of 34 chapters from the 64 squares to rook endings, with a glossary and diagrams drawn from checked positions.

The board and the screen

  • A clean, quiet board

A flat cream and slate board with ivory and charcoal pieces. Pinch to zoom and drag to pan, double-tap to switch between the full and focused view. You decide how much of the screen the game gets.

  • Nine themes

Porcelain, Olive, Midnight and Ember. Each one changes the whole interface, not only the board colours. There are also classic board colours, a colorblind-safe palette and a high-contrast one.

  • Display levels

Choose how much the screen shows: Focus (board only), Clean (a slim status strip), or Auto (the interface fades while your finger is on the board). On foldables there is also a tabletop layout for a half-open phone.

  • Hinge-aware

On supported foldables Enroque reads the live hinge angle and knows whether the phone is closed, standing like a laptop, or lying flat.

  • Table mode suggestion

Lay the phone flat during a pass-and-play game and the app offers to switch to Table mode, so you do not have to hunt for it.

  • Built around the fold

The screens are designed for a phone that folds one way: board on the lower half like a laptop, information above. Fully automatic layout changes with posture are still being finished.

  • Voice and typed moves Not yet tried on a phone

Say a move, or open the list of every legal move with spoken names such as "Knight g1 to f3". Clocks have spoken labels.

Every device

  • iPhone

Designed first for phones, including foldables.

  • iPad

The same game on a bigger board.

  • Mac

Runs on the Mac through Mac Catalyst.

  • Apple Watch Built, not yet tried on a watch

Shows whose move it is, both clocks and the last move, and taps your wrist when it is your turn.

  • Lock screen and Dynamic Island Built, not yet tried on a phone

A Live Activity shows the game in progress with the running clock.

  • Daily puzzle widget In testing

Built, but not yet seen on a real home screen. Tapping it opens the puzzle in the app.

What it will not do

  • No ads, ever

No banners, no video ads, no interruptions.

  • No daily caps

Play as many games as you like. Nothing is rationed behind a timer.

  • Core game is free

Every game mode, ranked play and the basics are free to use.

  • One-time Enroque Pro

A single purchase unlocks the extras (the full coach, mistakes-as-puzzles, all opponent levels and every board theme). Launch price: $4.99. No subscription. The final split between free and Pro is confirmed at launch.

  • No tracking

No analytics, no ad networks, no third-party SDKs, and the site sets no cookies. The privacy policy lists what the server stores and why.
