Terms of use

Last updated: 8 November 2026. These are the terms for using the Enroque app and the online service behind it. Plain language on purpose. If something here is unclear, write to [email protected].

Using the app

Enroque is for playing and learning chess. You may use it for yourself, for any lawful purpose. Do not try to break the service, overload it, get around its limits, or use another player's identity. We may block a device or player that does.

Fair play

Do not use a chess engine or another person to choose your moves in online games or in Lichess games. The coach and hints are turned off in Lichess games for that reason. If we find that a rated result was gained unfairly, we may remove it.

Names and conduct

Your display name is shown to opponents, friends and clubs, and on the leaderboard. Do not use a name that is abusive, impersonates someone, or contains personal details. Chat is limited to fixed phrases. We may change a name or remove a player or club that breaks these rules.

Reporting and blocking

You can report a player's name, messages or behaviour, and block a player, from the Friends screen, from a club's member list, and from the game menu in online games. Reports are reviewed by us, and we may change a name or remove a player or club. Blocking stops that player's messages and removes them from your friends and your lists. Names are checked against a filter when they are saved.

Ratings

Enroque ratings are our own. They are not FIDE, USCF or Lichess ratings and do not compare with them. We may adjust the rating system and recalculate ratings if we improve it.

Lichess

If you sign in to Lichess, you are using a separate service under Lichess's own terms and rules. Enroque is an independent app that connects to it with your permission and is not made by or endorsed by Lichess. You can revoke the app's access in your Lichess account.

Purchases

Enroque Pro is a one-time purchase through the App Store. Apple handles payment, refunds and restoring purchases under Apple's terms. Nothing in the app is a subscription.

Your data

The privacy policy says what we store. You can delete your online data in the app (More, then Delete my online data) at any time.

No guarantees

The app is provided as it is. It is a hobby-scale service and may be unavailable, change or lose data, including games, ratings, friends and clubs. The computer opponent is a simple engine and its moves and the coach's comments can be wrong. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or lost-profit losses. Nothing here limits rights you have by law as a consumer.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when. If a change is significant, we will say so in the app or on the site.

Contact

Enroque is made by an independent developer. Contact: [email protected].
